iPASTAR Launch and Symposium Virtual Event
On December 17, 2021 we were joined by a giant of stroke research, Prof. Bo Norrving, Professor of Neurology at Lund University, Sweden. As is a past President of the World Stroke Organization and Editor in chief European Stroke Journal, Prof Norrving’s work has impacted hugely on people affected by stroke all over the world.
We were hugely privileged that he joined us at our launch where he outlined the Stroke Action Plan for Europe 2018-2030 (SAP-E). Our projects are all in close alignment with the targets set out in SAP-E. His keynote speech underscored the importance of focused research that should influence policy makers and of the importance of equitable access to stroke care in the global south and east.
He noted the two key areas that key sees as barriers to change as a) a reluctance among health care professionals to change and b) a lack of political resourcing.
He noted the importance of accessing political leaders and decision makers with well formed arguments based on high quality data. We certainly hope that iPASTAR will play a role in providing such data in the coming years.
